CHAIN SAW CARVERS

The Woodsmen’s’ Show is an opportunity for chainsaw artists to expose their work to thousands of people interested in timber heritage and wood related activities.  Last year we had 8 chainsaw artists competing at the Woodsmen’s Show.  Each of them was able to sell some of their artwork, which they displayed near the sites of their masterpiece carvings.  We are in need of chainsaw artists who are willing to show their talent and compete with other artists for the benefit of Galeton Rotary Club sponsored community projects.

 Competition Prizes

9 hours are scheduled in the three days for the masterpiece carvings: These carvings will remain the property of the carver to dispose of as he or she wishes. Masterpiece logs are approximately 7’ long by more than 20" dia. The masterpiece carvings will be judged, and on Sunday afternoon, the chainsaw carving winners will be announced and the prizes distributed.

Masterpiece Prize Money
1st Prize $500
2nd Prize $400
3rd Prize $300
4th Prize $200
5th Prize $100

Each carver must produce a 60-minute competition piece from a 30" to 36" by more than 14" dia. log each day in the quick carve arena. These three "quick carves" are for Public Entertainment. These pieces will be auctioned, and the Galeton Rotary Club who sponsors the event will use the proceeds from the auctions for prizes and community programs. The competing artists will be allowed to bid at the auctions.

Quick Carve competitions are awarded each day.

1st Prize* $150
2nd Prize* $125
3rd Prize* $100

* These prizes will be awarded to the carving artists on Sunday according to the amounts their daily carvings brought in the quick carve auctions.

Any carver who does not place in any of the prizes will be awarded $50 to help defray costs. Space is limited and only the first 20 carvers who apply will be accepted. Your application, if accepted, will be acknowledged and you will be sent further directions.

If your application is received too late your deposit will be returned with your notification of rejection.

Carvers should arrive before noon Thursday to be assigned their carving sites, logs and blocks; and to prepare for the early Friday morning start of their timed masterpiece carving.

Click here for the application  must be filled out and returned promptly, along  with your check for $20. made out to Galeton Rotary Club. Because space is limited, only the first twenty applications will be accepted. If your application is not accepted your money will be returned immediately.  If you participate in the competition your money will be refunded on or after August 5, 2007.
